• Taming infinities

    Colloquium de Martin Hairer

    Some physical and mathematical theories have the unfortunate feature that if one takes them at face value, many quantities of interest appear to be infinite! Various techniques, usually going under the common name of “renormalisation” have been developed over the years to address this, allowing mathematicians and physicists to tame these infinities. We will tip our toes into some of the mathematical aspects of these techniques and we will see how they have recently been used to make precise analytical statements about the solutions of some equations whose meaning was not even clear until now.

    Objectif

    Le but de ces rencontres est de présenter un panorama de la recherche mathématique à travers les exposés de doctorants d’horizons géographiques et mathématiques variés ainsi que de trois chercheurs parrains de cet événement.

    Bien que principalement orientée vers les doctorants, cette conférence se veut également accessible aux étudiants de M2 désireux d’avoir un aperçu des travaux auxquels une thèse en mathématiques peut mener. Ces rencontres sont organisées avec le soutien du Centre Henri Lebesgue, du Laboratoire de mathématiques Jean Leray de Nantes, du Laboratoire angevin de recherche en mathématiques, de l’Institut de recherche en mathématique de Rennes et de l'école doctorale STIM.

    In association with the GDR 3477, the Stochastic Geometry days aims at gathering together reseachers investigating from a theoretical or practical viewpoint random spatial models. For this 5th edition, the conference focuses on random geometry, point processes, spatial statistics, spatial stochastic fields, time-space processes.

    The conference will be preceded by two short courses by Hermine Biermé (Poitiers) and by Yongtao Guan (Miami) on two days.

Thematic Semester 2014 - Around moduli spaces

Moduli spaces are among the subjects with a longest history in algebraic geometry. Starting from the first ideas of Riemann to nowadays, the research in this field has always been a backbone for the entire discipline. Its amazing development has also motived many technical advances and discoveries. Still these days the relevant amount of researchers working on moduli theory witnesses a very active and vital field of research. The goal of the current semester of the CHL is to explore many different aspects of this field of research, during several conferences, schools and workshops, to be held in Rennes, Nantes, Angers and Brest.
